As promised Im starting the house tour with the guest room/office.
I feel like I need to start with some back story. When we moved over here we did it ourselves, as in me, Mr Clev, and his nephew, in a transit van. So thats basically 6 peoples worth of stuff in a transit van. Needless to say A LOT of our stuff didnt quite get here (yes there were lots of expletives used during the moving process, and no my marriage or my sanity has not quite recovered yet) and basically when we arrived we had 3 single mattresses but no bases, no sofa, and a master bed which was too big for the master bedroom and had to live in this room instead.
We borrowed a sofabed from my nan (the red one below), and my dad bought us new sofas which got delivered last week. Phew. The bed situation has also been sorted and we finally got our new bed bases.
After a month of sleeping on our mattress on the floor of our bedroom we decided that instead of getting a new bed and having our massive bed taking up the downstairs room (which it was at the start) that it would be more sensible to just cut our bed down to size so it fitted in our bedroom (which has an ensuite and loads of wardrobe space, if you were wondering why we didnt just move our room downstairs). Phew JOB DONE!!!
This has enabled us to move the sofa bed into the downstairs room and create an office/homework/guest room which looks like this…..
Excuse the crappy panorama, but check out those little cuties helping mummy blog!haha!!
As you see, we have our computer on top of the expedit shelving unit from Ikea. Long term plan is to buy the desk attachment to this and flip it up on its end – so its more like an upright bookshelf and then desk. I also really need a notice board or similar here so I can keep a calender up on the wall and photos and bills and all that other boring admin stuff.
All these photos were taken before my Mummy arrived for her weekend visit. I put together a little welcome basket with towels and facewipes/deo in it as flying with Ryan Air you never know what they will confiscate at security!! I need to put shower gels and stuff in here too for next time, but its a cute idea and Im sure she appreciated it.
The sofa/sofa bed. My mum left this morning so I should have put the bed down really and changed it back into its sofa form. However, Im pretty sure Amelie will have another beasty night tonight (the child needs no sleep) so Im going to leave it out and either bring amelie down here when she screams so Ian can sleep (nice idea) or just move down here myself when the screaming starts (most likely to happen)
Also – those pictures on the wall. My Grandy did those at art school way back when in the erm 50s maybe?! anyways, they are from his portfolio. So cool. My favourite is the ‘join the RAF and safeguard Britain’ one. Pretty sure when some of my neighbours see that one we will be off the xmas card list but I dont care, I think they are awesome.
And the last ‘guest room’ photo = an empty biscuit tin.
I had filled this with specially purchased shortbreads for my mum to enjoy but when I showed her into her room (of course pretty smugly because Ive never had a spare room before) a little trail of crumbs all over the floor and bed let us to an empty tin. Maxi and Amelie ate hardly any dinner that night so Im blaming them!
So thats the guest room – who wants to come visit us!! Obviously only the people I actually know, and not the 4 blog readers from Washington who google informs me read my blog, of course if you are either the Obama’s, or another suitably rich politician, or one of the people from ‘DC cupcakes’ then you are more than welcome!!!!
